Giro d'Italia: Card Game Review

(More customer reviews)I recently purchased this board game on a wave of maglia rosa inspired shopping and I have to say I'm quite impressed. The quality of the pieces and the board in particular is very good. The rules are somewhat complicated but relatively realistic to real world cycling tactics. (Better translated and user-improved rules can be found here though I've not road-tested these yet: [...])
The game board is made a many varied road tiles that allow for many configuration of races and the rules booklet includes instructions to recreate the stages from the 2009 Giro (100th anniversary) but any race can be recreated, one-day classics, stage races etc (one of the tiles has a velodrome finish on it!)
Roadies and racing fans will understand the rules more quickly as the concepts of drafting, breaking away, bonking etc will all be familiar, I think people new to cycling will need a little more reading and test-playing to understand the tactical choices. That being said - it's not rocket science and the english translation of the rules is fairly good.
All-in-all a recommended cycling board game and a very interesting game in it's own right.

(More customer reviews)First, let's be clear: like any cable lock, this is NOT meant to securely lock a bike.The product tag says it well: "perfect for accessory lock-up or use as a secondary deterrent".This is designed to lock things like your helmet to your already-U-locked bike, or to lock your wheels/bike to the wall inside your also-locked garage at home.
As such, I give it 4.5 stars, especially on sale.The cable, although fairly thick, is flexible and robustly coated so it doesn't scratch/rust; the resettable combo lock is nicely streamlined into the cable, and it's straightforward to change the combo with the lock open.
My single 1/2-star quibble is that this model doesn't come with a tube mounting bracket, as do the higher-end Kryptonite cable locks.

OnGuard PitBull LS 5002 Bicycle U-Lock Review

(More customer reviews)I have only recently received this product and begun using it, but I am already quite pleased with my choice to go with the OnGuard PitBull.The construction is solid and I think this model is a perfect size (meaning large) for the many situations I can envision when my bike does not line up perfectly with a nearby bar or pole.I have also purchased the 4' long Akita cable from OnGuard and will use these two locks together most of the time.

My only complaint with the PitBull is the mounting clamp that comes with it.Compared to the high quality of the rest of the lock this piece feels cheap.It is made entirely of plastic instead of metal and the lock fails to slide in and out of it easily.I have not even attached it to my bike I can already imagine getting very mad at it every time I try to attach or remove it.I think I'll skip over this thing completely and just carry my PitBull around in my pannier or directly on my frame.It's too bad, because if not for this part the product would have received five stars.

Bottom line: if you want a lock which is and looks heavy duty then you won't go wrong with the PitBull from OnGuard.Combine it with a good quality cable like the Akita and you will be able to lock up your entire bike very securely.

(More customer reviews)This lock may in fact be perfect, but certainly not perfect for every one. I for example am a fairly large man who lives in Oaklands famous Killing Zone, where people hesitate to walk around at dusk and most windows have bars and bike theft is the mildest of concerns residents have. So for me carrying a 11lb chain is price worth paying to keep my bike safe, I also use it on my motorcycle.

This chain is a pain at first, it forces you to struggle up the huge hills in the bay area, though now I dare say im in phenomenal shape, and when I do ride with out it Ifeel superhuman.

If a smaller woman or lesser man tried to carry this chain then they had better take it slow and be ready to have their body crumble under the weight.

The choice for many people with expensive road bikes boils down to this.

1.Think about the endless quest to shave off 40 grams from your sweet Carbon fiber bike, you know the one you wont put stickers on because of weight issues.
2.Now think about doubling the overall weight of the bike and looking like a douchewith a giant chain around their shoulder drapped across the even douchier spandex jersey.
2.Now think about your bike being stolen and traded amongst crackheads.
The choice is clear.

(More customer reviews)This lock and chain is just awesome.I am 100% confident that my bike will always be waiting for me when I return to it!In 5 years of working and being a student in a downtown city, I've had 4 bikes stolen - which were locked up every time!When I came across this lock, I was shocked by the price... but then I thought about it:instead of spending a few hundred on a new bike every year, I'll pay for half another bike now as insurance to keep my current one. ... which is another good point about this lock - Kryptonite insures your bike up to $4000 if it is ever stolen!!That's pure confidence from a company right there, and no one else is offering anythig like that, so my confidence is also very high when I walk away from my bike.

This is definately a huge and heavy lock, but I don't see it as a problem and I use it every single day the sun is out.If you're a skinny lil whimp, you'll probably find yourself complaining carrying this thing around.I still laugh everytime I pick it up and put it over my shoulder, the sound it makes when it rattles is awesome (the links are 1/2" thick steel that way over a pound each!), and I can't believe I'm carrying it around for a bike... it seems like you should be tying a boat down with this thing!But that's the exact reason this lock is so great, it's not going to break!It's gonna take a torch or some heavy duty power tools to break it, and not many bike thieves are packing that kind of heat!

When I recieved this lock from amazon, the box was all busted up and the keys were missing.I called customer support and within like 2 minutes, they had another one on it's way with free 2 day shipping!!I was pretty upset at first, but I was very impressed with how they handled it, so I'm not gonna knock amazon at all for it!When the second one came, it was in a box within a box with those air pack things between the boxes and all the contents were there.

Overall, I love this lock and I'm very happy I bought it!Highly recommended if you want to walk away from your bike laughing at the idea of someone even TRYING to steal it!

(More customer reviews)I got sick of wondering if my bike seat would be there when I finish work.Now, I can lock it up every day.My 7 foot Kryptonite cable easily slips through the loop on the small cable and still locks the rest of the bike.

The diagram with the cable gives a suggestion on how to attach it to the seat.I leave that cable attached on the seat, with a cable-tie (or zip-tie, one of those things they use in electrical work) to hold it a bit more securely to the pole that the seat sits atop.

You can also use a separate lock to lock the cable to the bike.

The length of the cable seems good for its purpose.

(More customer reviews)Some people have issues with this cable being easily cut, which leads to their bike being stolen. I want to set the record straight about this product and proper locking methods. These cables are by no means meant to be your sole locking device, but rather, they are meant to be used in conjunction with (ideally) a U-Lock. I work in a bike shop and attend school at Michigan State, a virtual candy store for bike thieves, and as such proper locking is imperative. First off, buy yourself a good U-Lock. I would recommend going with the Kryptonite brand, as they are THE name in bike locks. I myself use what Kryptonite calls the "Fahgettaboudit" which is an 18mm-thick, vinyl-coated monster that would make New York's most proficient bike thieves shudder. THIS IS WHAT YOU USE TO LOCK YOUR BIKE TO THE STATIONARY OBJECT, not the cable. Put the U-Lock through the frame and through the stationary object. You then use a cable (I reccommend a seven or four-foot KryptoFlex, again, for the same reasons) to act as a secondary security device and, more importantly, SECURE YOUR REMOVABLE COMPONENTS (such as a quick-release wheel or seat). Before closing the U-Lock, put one end of the looped cable onto the U-Lock, then loop the cable through your wheel and seat supports. Put the other end of the looped cable onto the U-Lock, close the U-Lock, and walk away whistling, because your bike is now un-stealable. That is the proper application for these cables.

Okay, so now to actually review the cable. It's amazing. You cannot top Kryptonite's quality, and it is very useful. It is also just as resistant to cutting as any other cable you'll find. Top-notch durability

Now, there's no doubt that when people walk past your bike, with cables snaking through it like some kind of evil invasive weed, and a five-pound U-Lock hanging off the side, they'll be thinking "Man, this guy (or girl) is really obsessed with bike security." But, hey, isn't that the point?

While I was unlocking my bike a guy came up and tried to mug me at night at 8 PM. This guy came up to me with a knife and said give me your stuff. Before I turned I said " Oh yeah?", I then proceeded to grab the chain and lock and started swinging violently and said " What now mother f****r!", the mugger got scared , dropped his knife and ran away.
